Due to Last Year’s Protests and Plunging Enrollment, Evergreen State Cuts Around $6 Million from Budget

Last year’s widespread protests at Evergreen State College have led to falling enrollment numbers, which has led the college to slash $5.9 million from its budget for the upcoming year. The protests paralyzed the college campus, where students patrolled the campus and prevented the college president from leaving his office to use the restroom (albeit temporary).
This upcoming fall semester, the college expects to see a 20% decrease in student enrollment in fall 2018, far larger than the 4.5% decrease in the fall 2017 semester.
