Israel's 70th anniversary highlighted by Embassy move

I honestly didn’t think I would ever live to see the U.S. move its Embassy to Jerusalem.
I wasn’t encouraged when Congress overwhelmingly voted to do it decades ago.
I wasn’t encouraged when successive presidential candidates, winning and losing, pledged to do it.
In fact, I didn’t believe it would happen until Donald Trump was elected. Then it seemed to me that the politically impossible was becoming possible.
And that’s what happened this week.
I could only have enjoyed the moment more if I were there for the celebration.
That it came on the 70th anniversary of the end of the British mandate and the declaration of the revived nation of Israel was so fitting.
It was a historic moment lost on most of the international media, which gave near equal billing to violent protests by Hamas in Gaza.
These were not equal news events. These were not equal historic events. Not even close.
