Out of 1,600 Iranian Presidential Hopefuls, 6 Deemed Eligible, Including Hardline Cleric

More than 1,600 Iranians formally applied to be allowed to run for the presidency in next month’s election, but a small legal-religious body appointed by supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has now announced that just six, including incumbent President Hasan Rouhani, are eligible.
